Have you ever had a situation where you have felt "stuck"...
Stuck in a job?
Stuck in a relationship?
Stuck in a situation where you feel you didn't have any control?
We all have these times in our lives when we have so much going on, and so much drama where we might feel overwhelmed.
Stuck in a job?
Stuck in a relationship?
Stuck in a situation where you feel you didn't have any control?
We all have these times in our lives when we have so much going on, and so much drama where we might feel overwhelmed.
But, the trick is in knowing what to focus upon.
Do you see the young woman in the picture?
No? How about an old woman?
This is an example of how our brain works.
Depending on what you focus on, you will normally see either the young woman, or the old woman.
But, you cannot see both-- at the same time.
Granted, you can quickly switch your focus to see both images, but only one at a time.
Our mind operates in a similar way.
If we focus on negative things and ask ourselves things like:
Why do I have a job which I hate?
Why am I not happy?
Why can't I get ahead?
Guess what?
Your subconscious mind will find the answers for you.
What is needed is the ability to recognise how we speak with ourselves, and if that "self-talk" is negative, recognise it, and make a positive change?
Most of us want to make certain changes in our lives, but we don't always know how.
We all have habits, and habits are not bad things.
Habits enable us to do more than one thing at a time.
The problem with habits is if we develop ones that are detrimental, it takes a lot of conscious effort to make a significant long-term change.
Try this: Fold your arms.
Now, fold them the other way.
How does that feel...? Strange, huh?
You see, when we try to change a habit, it is a challenge because we've developed mechanisms to keep things the way they are.
And, we can consciously override certain habitual behaviours, but like folding your arms the other way, it just feels weird, and most of us will go back to the familiar way of doing things.
The idea is to develop habits which benefit us instead of hold us back, and keeping us stuck.
So, the first thing to do is to make a list of how you'd like to be as a person.
More assertive, more focused, or more positive perhaps.
Ask yourself this:
If I was like the person I want to be, what does that look to me?
Think about how it is. Think about how you would act in certain situations. Think about how good you'd feel making certain accomplishments.
Ask yourself better questions.
For example: How do I get a job which I love?
What things am I happy about?
What things can I do to get ahead?
The most important thing to consider is no matter how interesting things get in these times, I assure you that years from now, someone will call these times, "The good old days".
Just remember: Times change.
You can too if you want to.
